Choose Canterbury is delighted to welcome a significant new addition to the district’s leisure landscape, as the brand-new David Lloyd Herne Bay club officially opens its doors on December 2nd 2025. The multi-million-pound development marks one of the largest private leisure investments the area has seen in recent years and is expected to deliver a substantial boost to the local economy.

The new state-of-the-art facility includes indoor and outdoor pools, premium fitness studios, padel courts, a full-service spa, family activity zones, and high-quality café and work spaces – bringing a modern, health-focused destination to one of East Kent’s fastest-growing coastal communities.

Significant jobs boost for the district

The investment is set to create an estimated 150–180 local jobs, ranging from fitness and coaching roles to hospitality, operations, childcare, and maintenance positions. Choose Canterbury has welcomed the new opportunities, highlighting the positive impact on both employment and long-term skills development within the region.

A vote of confidence in Herne Bay’s growth

Speaking about the development, Councillor Chris Cornel Cabinet Member for economic development and inclusion at Canterbury City Council, said:
